Each polymer clay creation begins with a spark, a specific idea or vision comes to mind. But as I set to work, the clay speaks to me, and this “conversation” guides me to the final expression of my original vision.
Designing and molding clay is a very hands-on process. One that is both free-flowing and exacting. It begins as I blend custom colors until I achieve the correct saturation and intensity according to my vision. Translucent clay is frequently incorporated into the design to lend a glowing, transparent quality with the passage of light.
The clay is manipulated by rolling, stretching, cutting and combining. The resulting clay “canes” are used in final design to create a variety of patterns and shapes.
Thinly shaved sections of clay cane are then joined with glass as the “canvas”. A final bake and protective glaze completes the process, resulting in one-of-a-kind bowls, plates, vases and ornaments.
These items should be treated as art objects, however they can be functional as well. The glass surface is food safe, but should only be hand washed and never exposed to microwave, heat or the dishwasher.
